The Great Ocean Walk has quickly become one of the world's most iconic walks. Since the Great Ocean Walk opened in January 2006, Aire Valley Restaurant and Guest House has hosted many walkers who come to explore this magnificent coastline.
Being 25kms from the beginning of the walk to the east at Apollo Bay and 70kms from the end of the walk to the west at the Twelve Apostles, near Port Campbell, Aire Valley Restaurant and Guest House is ideally located for joining the Great Ocean Walk at any point.
The Great Ocean Walk was specifically designed to "step on and step off" the trail to allow for walkers to complete the walk while enjoying the comforts of a warm bed, great food and great wine.
The Great Ocean Walk was originally intended to run from Apollo Bay to Glenample Homestead, but Glenample Homestead is now closed so the track finishes near the 12 Apostles. The length of the track is about 91kms, although with some realignment the length will vary over the next few years.
The track winds along the coast, through rain forests, across rivers and provides opportunities to see and abundance of birds and wildlife. Swamp wallabies, kangaroos, koalas, king parrots, echidnas, blue tongued lizards, and snakes will be seen along the track. Leave the snakes alone and they will leave you alone.
We have a selection of Great Ocean Walk packages which can also be customised to your individual needs. A package from 2 nights to 7 nights can be arranged and can include all breakfasts, lunches, dinners, transport and even drinks each day after the walk. Let us organise your transport for you and you can just sit back and enjoy the wonderful scenery.See our full selection of Great Ocean Walk Packages.
In April 2010, Tourism Victoria is releasing the documentary "The Art of Walking" featuring 3 extraordinary people walking the Great Ocean Walk. A 3 minute trailer has been released and features Katarina Witt and Michael Milton at Aire Valley Guest House.
