Allow time for a tour of the lighthouse. It is well worthwhile and provides a great history of the area and the coastline. The Cape Otway Lighthouse cemetery is here as well just outside the Lighthouse. The walk goes through a changing landscape of sand dunes, scrubland and cliffs. A side trip to Rainbow Falls and Station beach is a 3km walk. The Aire River is one of the oldest rivers in Australia and joins the lakes Craven, Costin and Hordern. This area is an important wetland conservation area. Aire Valley Restaurant and Guesthouse overlooks Lake Hordern.
Considered by many walkers to have the best views of the track. Stunning coastal views, an area of grasstrees (which many consider to be like a fairy garden) Startin at the beautiful inlet of the Aire River the path takes your around rocky enscarpments, heathland, forest before finally finishing at the angry ocean waves of Johanna Beach. If Bells Beach near Torquay is flat, the Rip Curl surf competition comes here. From the Great Ocean Walk you have the best vantage point to see the fantastic waves.
One of the most difficult sections of the walk but unforgettable views from the cliff-tops. The view takes in the coast all the way back to Cape Otway Light Station. This section of the walk is rated difficult due to the undulated terrain.
