Aire Valley Restaurant and Guest House - Great Ocean Road

The owners of this beautiful guest house, Annabel and Martin Tunley have decided to sell because Annabel is now an estabished children's author and writing will become her main occupation. Annabel and Martin came to the guest house five years ago after living and working in London. Their experiences in catering led them to fulfilling their dream of owning a restaurant where most of the food served on the plate comes directly from the restaurant garden.

The house is now in the final stages of being granted planning permission for an extension to the existing restaurant which currently seats 20 diners. The extension will seat 50 diners and also includes a planning permit for a kitchen extension and another bedroom.

Aire Valley Restaurant and Guest House is the only restaurant between Apollo Bay and the 12 Apostles. It has 15 acres of grounds comprising citrus orchards, numerous apple, peaches, nectarines, pear trees, a 100 year old olive tree, an extensive vegetable and salad patch and a berry house. Rainfall here is high and there is also a natural spring.

There are 8 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms spread over two wings. The owners' side of the house has a large commercial kitchen, lounge, 3 of the bedrooms, a bathroom and an office. The guests' side has four queen ensuite rooms, a large lounge dining room, a galley kitchen and a sweeping verandah. There is also a self contained cottage in the garden.

The beach at Castle Cove lies 6kms from the house and is a mecca for surfers. The view from the front of the house takes in Lake Costin and the Aire River Wildlife Reserve and the Great Otway National Park from all the other directions.

The house stands directly above the Great Ocean Road and therefore accommodates many passing travellers. Driving the Great Ocean Road was voted Number 1 Tourism Experience in Victoria recently in a survey conducted by the RACV.

The Great Ocean Walk opened close by only 3 years ago and last year there were an estimated fifty thousand walkers trekking along the track which runs from Apollo Bay to the 12 Apostles.
